Upon the formal learning period's termination or even the natural acquisition of a language overseas, learners or speakers face new tasks of maintaining their language proficiency. Maintaining foreign language proficiency in unfavourable circumstances, like English in Indonesia, where most people in the society do not use English and where English native speakers are hardly available for learners to practice, is hard. Otherwise, their English will gradually decrease. This phenomenon is called language attrition.
